Executive Board

The Human Mortality Database Executive Board makes decisions and recommendations concerning the maintenance and further development of the Human Mortality Database (HMD), including its core and extensions. The Board reviews and endorses decisions by the HMD Director(s) concerning methodology, country coverage, further enhancements, and new research directions. The Board meets on demand but not less than twice a year.

The Board also reviews HMD-related activities and products developed separately from the core Database but under the HMD logo, such as the USMDB or the German Human Mortality Database. The Board may provide general recommendations about such developments. Although it does not have oversight authority over the satellite projects, it decides whether the satellite project can be associated with the HMD project.

The Board consists of current and former HMD directors as well as researchers who are making or have made substantial contributions to the project. Membership in the Board does not depend on affiliation with one of the institutions supporting the HMD but is determined by a potential member’s personal history of engagement in the project. The size and composition of the Board may be changed, as needed, by a decision of the Board.
